In a move reflecting the growing demand for AI literacy, Google has launched the Google AI Professional Certificate, a short-term, application-focused programme designed to help learners develop practical artificial intelligence skills.
The certificate, hosted on Coursera, is structured to be completed in approximately 10 hours. It comprises seven concise courses followed by a hands-on capstone project, which will allow participants to build a portfolio demonstrating real-world AI capability.
Unlike theory-heavy programmes, the curriculum focuses on applied skills across research, strategic planning, professional communication, content creation, data analysis and workflow automation. Learners will complete more than 20 hands-on projects using AI tools for planning, brainstorming, writing, research and app development without requiring coding knowledge.
Lisa Gevelber, Founder of Grow with Google, said the initiative aims to translate AI capability into economic opportunity.
“The certificate translates the power of AI into tangible economic opportunity for every business and worker. Top employers and universities across the country will use this training to help their teams and students succeed,” she added.
Participants will also receive three months of complimentary access to Google AI Pro, enabling them to work with advanced AI models, including Gemini, NotebookLM, Gemini Canvas and integrations within Google Workspace.
The six core modules cover AI fundamentals, brainstorming and planning, research and insights, writing and communication, content creation, and data analysis. The programme also introduces workflow optimisation through task chaining and automated processes.
With enrollment now open, Google positions the certificate as a flexible upskilling pathway for working professionals seeking to prepare for an AI-driven economy without committing to long-term study.
