The Ministry of Ayush, on May 14, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to expand multilingual access across Ayush digital platforms using artificial intelligence-powered language technologies.
The collaboration aims to make Ayush services and knowledge systems accessible in all 22 scheduled Indian languages recognised under the Constitution by integrating BHASHINI technologies into the ministry’s digital ecosystem.
The initiative, launched under the ‘BHASHINI Rajyam - A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program’ will integrate BHASHINI’s translation, speech and voice technologies into various Ayush digital services, portals and AI-enabled tools developed under the Ayush Grid initiative.
According to the ministry, the partnership is expected to improve accessibility to healthcare and wellness-related information across diverse linguistic regions, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
Under the Ayush Grid initiative, the Ministry of Ayush has been working on digital healthcare systems covering sectors such as healthcare delivery, research, education, drug administration and capacity building. The collaboration with BHASHINI would help strengthen multilingual communication for systems related to Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy.
The MoU was signed by Subodh Kumar, Director, Ministry of Ayush, and Amitabh Nag, Chief Executive Officer of the Digital India BHASHINI Division in the presence of senior officials from both ministries.
Speaking during the event, Ayush Secretary, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, said that making Ayush knowledge available in regional languages was important for inclusive healthcare delivery and wider public outreach.
The initiative would support the creation of domain-specific multilingual terminology databases and contextual AI models tailored for healthcare and wellness communication.
The ministry added that BHASHINI technologies have already been integrated into certain Ayush platforms, including the Yoga Portal and the Ayush Grid master portal, where they reportedly received positive feedback from users accessing services in local languages.
During the event, BHASHINI showcased several AI-enabled tools, including multilingual doctor-patient interaction systems capable of generating prescriptions, real-time meeting transcription tools, voice-based CV-building solutions and technologies aimed at preserving India’s ancient manuscripts.
The collaboration reflects its broader effort to build a more inclusive, accessible and citizen-centric digital healthcare ecosystem using emerging AI technologies.
