MongoDB has appointed technology industry veteran Richard Scott as Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), as the company looks to accelerate regional growth and help businesses move from experimenting with artificial intelligence to deploying AI applications at scale.

Scott, who brings more than 25 years of experience across the technology sector, joins MongoDB after holding senior roles at Salesforce, Microsoft and SAP. Based in Sydney, he will lead the company’s regional strategy and expand its presence across key APJ markets.

The appointment comes as businesses across Asia Pacific and Japan increasingly shift from AI pilots to real-world production deployments. With organisations seeking to build and scale AI applications more efficiently, MongoDB aims to strengthen its role in providing the data infrastructure needed to support these initiatives.

“Solving the data layer is going to be the defining technology question for organisations in the AI era,” Scott said.

MongoDB counts several major companies across the region among its customers, including LG U+, Cathay Pacific, Samsung and Woolworths. Its customer base also includes fast-growing and AI-focused companies such as Heidi, Zomato, Canva, Grab and Emergent.

The company has continued to expand its regional footprint. MongoDB recently opened a new office in Kuala Lumpur and plans to open another in Tokyo in September, following increased investment in the Japanese market.

The company has also expanded its engineering teams in India and Australia. As part of its broader developer-focused strategy, MongoDB has announced plans to upskill two million developers through academic programs by 2030.
