Database giant MongoDB said its engineering team in India was the primary center for developing the newly released Atlas Agent Engine.
The company established its R&D team in the country 18 months ago, and currently employs 110 engineers.
Unveiled at the company’s Investor Day in New York, the platform provides a unified layer that lets enterprises bring agentic AI into production. Essentially, it combines three things that companies typically have to assemble separately—agent execution/runtime, persistent memory and retrieval, and governance/security.
“Without a single platform, engineering teams must stitch together disparate tools that break every time underlying models or frameworks evolve. That’s what Atlas Agent Engine is designed to solve for,” the company said.
All of the capabilities of the Atlas Agent Engine are tightly integrated within MongoDB’s existing infrastructure. The platform is available in public preview, with consumption-based pricing for the Atlas Agent Runtime and Atlas Agent Memory.
The India team was also the ‘primary centre’ for developing other core MongoDB capabilities, including its latest 9.0 variant. “Indian teams delivered key Enterprise Advanced
capabilities for MongoDB 9.0, including mission-critical backup features,” said the company.
The company has over 750 employees in India across its Gurugram, Mumbai, and Bengaluru offices, and began operations in 2013.
MongoDB also said that the Indian teams are developing automated migration tools, AI-assisted code translation frameworks, and schema transformation utilities.
“The work our talented team does here directly impacts our largest, most mission-critical enterprise customers worldwide,” Nitin Aggarwal, Director of Engineering at MongoDB, said in a statement.
“I’m so proud of what we've already achieved in such a short time, but as the team rapidly expands, there’s a huge opportunity ahead for engineers in India to shape the future of software.”
MongoDB serves half of the top 100 companies in India by market capitalisation, alongside 50 unicorn startups in the country.
The latest MongoDB 9.0 is designed to handle higher-throughput transactional applications and AI workloads. The company reported up to 2x higher throughput on large instances, 35% faster find-one queries, and 30% faster update-one queries compared with MongoDB 8.0.
The release also expands Queryable Encryption to support prefix, suffix, and substring searches on encrypted data, alongside improvements to workload management, observability, and scalability.
