Samsung Electronics and five affiliates (Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance) will invest $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a KKR-backed AI infrastructure company.

Samsung announced the investment to support infrastructure for rising AI compute demand. The investment will help the giant expand beyond hardware components into AI infrastructure.

Helix will develop and operate hyperscale data centres, power generation, transmission and fibre-optic networks for large-scale AI workloads.

Helix launched in June and aims to provide infrastructure across the AI value chain. Its offering includes data centre development and operations, power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fibre-optic networks.

The company says this model can help hyperscalers secure infrastructure faster and is led by Adam Selipsky, former CEO of Amazon Web Services.

It is also building a management team with expertise across data centres and power. KKR’s global infrastructure business contributes about 170 dedicated professionals. Founding investors include KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and US power company Vistra Corp. Samsung’s investment brings its affiliates into a group spanning semiconductors, computing infrastructure and energy.

Samsung said AI data centres are becoming business platforms rather than simple facilities. These platforms include GPU-as-a-Service, sovereign AI and colocation services. Their expansion is also increasing demand across power generation, cooling, semiconductors and finance.

The company identified power availability as a key constraint on AI infrastructure. “Power availability is currently the greatest bottleneck in AI infrastructure,” Samsung said. Helix plans to secure energy capacity through direct investments and partnerships with energy developers, including Vistra.

The investment also connects Helix’s infrastructure strategy with Samsung’s existing businesses. Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions division supplies semiconductor products for global AI infrastructure development.

Its Device eXperience division provides data centre cooling systems through FläktGroup, which Samsung acquired in 2025. The portfolio covers air cooling systems and coolant distribution units for liquid cooling. FläktGroup operates 14 production sites and a supply and service network across 65 countries.

Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group works as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor. It handles data centre and power generation infrastructure projects. Samsung SDS designs, builds and operates data centres and has entered the GPU-as-a-Service market.

Samsung SDI supplies uninterruptible power supplies and battery backup units for data centres. These systems support facilities running high-performance servers around the clock. The affiliate plans to explore new opportunities in this area.

Samsung said the investment will accelerate global AI data centre deployment alongside Helix. It also aims to increase collaboration among the participating Samsung companies.
