Indian AI Startup Sarvam AI is hiring forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) as the company expands deployments of its AI platform across enterprises and public institutions in India.
Sarvam is building what it describes as a sovereign AI platform for India, spanning research, foundation models, infrastructure, and applications. The company works with enterprises and public institutions, with customers including Tata Capital, SBI Life, CRED, IDFC, and LIC.
Sarvam’s hiring also comes as forward-deployed engineering becomes a priority across the AI industry. Last week, AWS announced a $1 billion forward-deployed engineering organisation that will embed engineers with enterprise customers to build production AI systems. Microsoft followed with the Microsoft Frontier Company, backed by a $2.5 billion investment and a team of around 6,000 engineers and AI specialists focused on helping customers deploy AI at scale.
According to the job posting, the role will involve working directly with enterprise customers to integrate Sarvam’s AI platform into business workflows. Engineers will be responsible for taking AI systems from design to production while working closely with customer engineering teams.
“We’re looking for an FDE to work directly with enterprise clients integrating our platform into their business workflows,” the company said in the job listing. “You will be embedded with clients—understanding their operational processes, configuring the platform for their needs, debugging issues end-to-end, and ensuring they achieve high-quality outcomes across their use cases.”
The company said the role combines software engineering with customer-facing responsibilities. Engineers will write integration scripts, configure platforms, fix bugs, and serve as the primary technical contact for enterprise accounts.
Sarvam said FDEs will “own the technical arc of customer engagements, from scoping the solution through to the system running in production.” The role also includes designing AI systems that meet reliability, latency, accuracy, and cost requirements, as well as deploying them in customer environments.
The company expects engineers to work across a range of AI applications, including voice and conversational systems, developer tools built around Sarvam's APIs, translation and dubbing pipelines, and agentic AI workflows.
“FDSEs are hands-on engineers, not technical project managers,” the job description states.
Engineers will be expected to build evaluation pipelines, measure system performance, and iterate based on production data while sharing feedback with Sarvam’s product and research teams.
Sarvam is looking for candidates with strong AI fundamentals, including experience with large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), context engineering, memory systems, structured outputs, and agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or Google ADK. The company also expects candidates to have experience across backend development, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems.
The company said it values engineers who have shipped AI products, contributed to open-source projects, or built production systems. Experience deploying AI in regulated sectors such as banking, financial services, insurance, or the public sector will be an advantage.
Sarvam AI recently closed its Series B funding, raising $234 million toward a planned $300 million round at a $1.5 billion valuation. The round was led by HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors including Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.
