The Tamil Nadu government has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for three major projects involving a combined investment of ₹18,600 crore, marking a significant step in the state’s industrial expansion strategy aimed at achieving its $1.5 trillion economy vision by 2036.
The agreements were exchanged in the presence of Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, Industries Minister Selvi S. Keerthana, L&T Managing Director S N Subramanian, and senior government officials at the State Secretariat.
The largest component of the investment is a ₹15,000 crore Information and Data Centre project in Kancheepuram district, which is expected to generate around 500 direct jobs. The initiative is positioned as a key infrastructure pillar in Tamil Nadu’s growing digital economy and data-led industrial ecosystem.
Alongside the data centre development, the MoUs also include a ₹2,500 crore electronics accessories manufacturing facility will be set up in Coimbatore, expected to generate around 2,000 employment opportunities, while a ₹1,100 crore shipbuilding yard at Kattupalli port in Tiruvallur district is projected to create approximately 5,700 jobs, further strengthening the state’s industrial and maritime manufacturing ecosystem.
Together, the three projects are expected to create about 8,200 employment opportunities across the state.
The initiative underscores Tamil Nadu’s continued focus on attracting large-scale investments across both digital and traditional industrial sectors.
Officials said the projects are intended to strengthen manufacturing capacity, expand data infrastructure, and boost employment generation, aligning with the state’s long-term economic growth objectives
