In 2021, CoinDCX became one of the first cryptocurrency unicorns in the country. Founded in 2018, the company was started by Sumit Gupta and Neeraj Khandelwal. Over the years, it has grown to a team of 600+ members and is one of the most valued Crypto Investment App in India, besides WazirX, CoinSwitch Kuber, Unocoin and others. 

The company currently has over 13 million+ users using its platform and counting. It operates multiple platforms, including CoinDCX Go, a crypto investment app, alongside a professional trading platform called CoinDCX Pro and crypto-centric investor education platform DCX Learn. 

CoinDCX is backed by notable venture capital firms like Polychain, Bain Capital Ventures, 100x Ventures, Block.one, B Capital Group, Pantera Capital, and Steadview Capital, alongside angel investors like Sanjay Mehta, Utsav Somani, Sung Ho Choi, Anthony Bucci, and others. 

The crypto unicorn is looking to start an Innovation Centre to further bolster web3 and blockchain adoption in the country. It is also planning to launch several products and features for Indian investors, alongside investing in the platform itself for better safety and robustness. Some of its recent investments include Space and Time, Unstoppable Domains, Optic, Liminal, Taki, and MetaEngine.

Inside CoinDCX 

As a digital-first organisation, the success of CoinDCX led us to its analytics and data engineering teams which have been instrumental in helping the company in product development and feature engineering, alongside scaling the business multifold. 

Piyush Chourashiya, head of data at CoinDCX, told Analytics India Magazine that analytics drives business decisions by bringing in measurability, experimentation rigour, impact estimation, and target setting for business and product teams. On the other hand, its data engineering team has been instrumental in improving access to and quality of data to enable this decision-making. 

Further, he said that the teams continue to solve fundamental business problem statements. For instance, the analytics team at CoinDCX is instrumental in identifying key product features that customers are highly likely to adopt. This helps the business with targeted and more effective marketing. “The data engineering team has solved some significant real-time alerts which help the business make on-time decisions,” said Chourashiya. 

By the end of 2022, CoinDCX aims to triple its talent pool to more than 1000 employees to nurture local talent through various initiatives, outreach programmes, and strategic investments. 

The company told AIM that it is looking to hire over 15 members in the analytics and data engineering teams across experiential levels in Bengaluru and Mumbai. The average CTC is competitive as per the market standards, informed the company. 

Team Structure 

CoinDCX data engineering and analytics teams currently have close to 30 members and are continuing to grow rapidly. Chourashiya said that in line with building a data-oriented culture, its analytics team is structured to mirror key business functions at CoinDCX. In contrast, the data engineering team is structured across long-term goals of bringing in reliability in data pipelines and integrity of data. 

Interview Process 

CoinDCX did not reveal much about the interview process but said that it is seeking candidates who are passionate about contributing to the future of web3. However, the company is presently hiring candidates via referral and exploratory calls as well as hackathons. 

Expectations 

Chourashiya said that analytics is a function that requires a mix of skills across scripting languages, mathematics and statistics, and business understanding. He said that it is a quickly-evolving space, and they are seeking innovative and ambitious candidates who want to build capabilities that would last for years to come. “At CoinDCX, we take our cultural values extremely seriously, and we look for candidates who share these values,” he added.
