After a lot of startups and established big players’ keen interest on launching home automation products in India, LG, a South Korean electrical appliances company has shown an interest in launching IoT based home appliances in India.
It is set to introduce the smart appliances with features such as HomeChat and SmartThinQ, that would enable the customers to control and operate home appliances through their smartphones, via internet.
Prior to LG, Samsung has ventured in the Indian market with it smart Tizen powered appliances such as TV, washing machines, refrigerator etc.
According to the reports, LG is looking forward to partner with Indian telecom companies to launch their IoT powered home appliances in India. It comes as a first step by the company to foray into the Indian market in this field and the company plans to launch a small set up, which essentially would be dependent on the internet connectivity. With its partnership with cellular internet provider, LG intends to address this need.
Though the telecom companies that LG is looking forward to connect, remains undisclosed, Ki Wan Kim, the managing director of LG Electronics India is keen on meeting the head of the telecom service provider. He said that the company has already prepared smart IoT related product, and though the device is easy to operate, it needs protocol interface for its operation.
Few of the features developed by LG for its IoT based smart home appliances are—HomeChat and SmartThinQ. While the former allows the user to receive notifications and reminders from smart appliances such as washing machine and cookers so as to keep a tab on the progress of task and control it, the latter allows user to remotely control the smart devices.
The company wants to deliver what is stands for—i.e. Life is Good, and with the smart appliances, it is looking forward to enhance the lifestyles of Indians.
