S Krishnan
Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India

S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), is the senior civil servant leading the execution of India's AI strategy, overseeing the rollout of the ₹10,300-crore IndiaAI Mission and the country's push to build sovereign AI infrastructure and indigenous foundation models.
Under his leadership, India operationalised its national AI compute infrastructure, making tens of thousands of GPUs available to startups, researchers, academia, and public institutions to accelerate indigenous AI development.
Krishnan has also overseen the government's sovereign AI push, supporting the development of Indian foundation models through public funding and compute access. As of June 2026, IndiaAI-backed startups had developed 20 foundation models, with five already released.
Beyond infrastructure, Krishnan played a central role in organising the India AI Impact Summit 2026, bringing together world leaders, researchers, and technology companies to position India at the forefront of global AI discussions. His leadership has also strengthened the integration of AI with India's broader semiconductor and digital public infrastructure strategies, reinforcing the country's ambition to build a sovereign, full-stack AI ecosystem with global relevance.
