Accenture has secured a multi-million euro contract from the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) to help modernise the alliance's digital infrastructure, marking one of the consulting firm's significant public sector technology engagements in the defence sector.

The contract is part of NATO's Protected Business Network (PBN) programme, an initiative aimed at replacing legacy information technology systems with a more secure, cloud-enabled digital enterprise.

Under the agreement, Accenture will work alongside Italian aerospace and defence company Leonardo to deliver the project over the next seven years.

"Under the Protected Business Network, NATO is taking a key step to modernise its digital infrastructure and enable a more connected, data-driven enterprise, ensuring we deliver digital capabilities at speed and scale", NCIA General Manager Dylan Browne said in a statement.

The programme is intended to improve the alliance's digital resilience by providing a standardised and secure technology environment for NATO personnel across domains.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, although NATO described it as a multi-million euro award.

The engagement comes as governments and defence organisations globally ramp up investments in secure cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence amid rising geopolitical tensions and increasing cyber threats.

For Accenture, the deal expands its footprint in government and defence technology projects, an area where global consulting firms are seeing growing demand for digital transformation and secure enterprise platforms.

For the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, Accenture reported revenue of $18.7 billion, up 6% in dollar terms and 3% in local currency. However, its new bookings fell 2% in dollar terms and 3% in local currency, to $19.3 billion.

The NCIA oversees NATO's technology and cyber infrastructure, supporting command and control systems, communications networks, and digital services across operations.
