Lonza Group AG, a global contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has announced plans to establish a new global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, further reinforcing the city’s position as a major hub for the life sciences and biopharmaceutical industry.

A delegation from the Switzerland-headquartered company met with D Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s Minister for Industries and Commerce, and Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Shakthi M Nagappan, CEO of Telangana Lifesciences, to formally communicate the decision and outline their proposed plans for the centre.

Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Switzerland, Lonza operates across more than 30 sites worldwide and employs nearly 20,000 professionals. In 2025, the company reported sales of CHF 6.5 billion and a core EBITDA of CHF 2.1 billion.

The company’s decision follows an extensive evaluation process, during which Hyderabad emerged as the preferred destination due to its strong talent pool, quality infrastructure, and supportive industrial ecosystem.

Over the past several months, senior representatives from Lonza engaged with Telangana Lifesciences, the state’s Industries and Commerce Department, and other stakeholders, further strengthening the company’s confidence in Hyderabad as the location for its new investment.

“Lonza’s investment further strengthens Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for innovation-led growth in the global biopharmaceutical industry,” the minister said.

The new GCC is expected to generate high-value employment and further integrate Hyderabad into the global biopharmaceutical value chain.

Meanwhile, at BioAsia 2026, the Telangana government secured new investment pledges across life sciences, animal vaccines, AI-led healthcare analytics, and infrastructure.

The announcements cover four major projects that together are expected to create direct jobs over the next few years.
