Global semiconductor company Texas Instruments (TI) on February 7 inaugurated a new product research and development (R&D) centre in Bengaluru, marking 40 years of the company’s operations in India.
The 550,000-square-foot facility houses product design teams, integrated circuit design labs and an end-to-end reliability lab equipped to test chips under different environmental conditions. The centre is aimed at supporting TI’s work in analogue and embedded processing technologies.
The R&D centre was inaugurated by Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with senior leaders from Texas Instruments.
“TI has been a true pioneer in India’s semiconductor journey and stood as a testament of consistently nurturing the design talent ecosystem in India,” Vaishnaw said. “The company’s expanded investment reinforces India’s position as a global hub for semiconductor design, development and supports our vision of building an innovation-led nation.”
Santhosh Kumar, President and Managing Director of TI India, said the new facility reflects the company’s long-term plans for the country. “TI India’s product development and design teams drive research and breakthrough innovations for customers worldwide. Our world-class engineers are central to pioneering the next generation of semiconductor advancements,” he added.
Texas Instruments set up its first R&D centre in Bengaluru in 1985. Over the years, it has expanded its engineering and design footprint in the country and employs thousands of people.
The company said it has also opened an additional sales office recently to support customers in India, while the new R&D centre adds to its product development capabilities in the region.
