6 Announcements to Watch Out for at India AI Impact Summit
By Mohit Pandey ·

The India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled for February 16–20 in New Delhi, will be the first-ever global AI summit hosted in the Global South.
It will be anchored on three foundational pillars, known as 'Sutras,' and around seven interconnected Chakras—areas of multilateral cooperation designed to channel collective energy toward holistic societal transformation.
Here are the top expectations from the India AI Impact Summit.
Expanding National GPU Pool
For years, Indian AI founders have been parroting the same complaint: Building models is easy, compute is not. The government is responding with a shared national pool, which currently already has an installed capacity of 38,000 GPUs.
Through the Ministry of Information and Technology’s (MeitY) IndiaAI Compute Portal, startups, researchers, and universities will get subsidised access to tens of thousands of GPUs. According to an ET report, the government is expected to add 25,000 more GPUs, with a target of reaching a total of 100,000 by the end of 2026.
The hardware mix includes top-tier accelerators like H100 and MI300 class chips. Prices are expected to be discounted by up to 40%. Abhishek Singh, CEO of IndiaAI Mission, recently said that nearly $70 billion in AI-related investment announcements have already happened, and more are expected at the summit.
Indian Foundation Models Will Go Live
After selecting 12 startups to build foundational models for the country, the government is expecting them to release, or at least announce their models, at the India AI Impact Summit.
Sarvam, the first startup to get selected under the IndiaAI Mission, has been on a 14-day launch spree, releasing several Vision and Audio models that it claims have outperformed GPT and Gemini on several Indic language tasks.
Other companies, including BharatGen, Fractal Analytics, Soket, Gnani, Tech Mahindra, and others, are also expected to make announcements about their foundational AI models.
The message is both political and practical. India does not want to depend only on foreign models.
Whether these models can match global benchmarks is the real question. The summit will position them as proof that sovereignty and performance can coexist.
200+ IT Models
Large IT services players and deep tech startups are expected to showcase over 200 domain models. These target BFSI, insurance, manufacturing, public services, and compliance.
For companies like TCS, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and others, these are deployable systems, not demos. It signals that Indian AI is moving from “build a model” to “sell a solution”.
These companies, over the last quarter, have announced hundreds of AI agents, with some of them marking their impact on the overall topline with AI revenue breakdowns. It would be interesting to see what comes out that is unique this time.
Startup Accelerator
The IndiaAI Global Acceleration Program will send select startups to the Station F business incubator in Paris for a four-month sprint with mentors and investors. It is a small cohort of around 10 startups.
But the signal is clear. The government wants Indian AI startups to think global from day one, not after a Series B round. This is less about funding and more about exposure.
It is expected that more AI startups would be selected for the mentorship.
AI Labs in Tier-2, 3 Cities
Last year, the government announced plans to establish over 20 data and AI labs under the India AI Mission across tier-2 and tier-3 cities. This number would be expanded to 200 by the next year to develop skilled professionals in the AI domain, Jitin Prasada, MoS for electronics and IT, had informed the Lok Sabha.
There are expectations of more such announcements from the government at the summit.
The Centre has already made several announcements around AI chatbots for farmers, recommendation systems for civil servants, and automated workflows inside ministries.
Big Money From Global Tech Giants
Ministers have already hinted at tens of billions of dollars of AI infrastructure investments. Cloud and data centre expansions from global players like Google and AWS, plus domestic groups like Jio and Adani, are expected to be highlighted.
Moreover, Singh recently said at a conference that there is going to be a surge of data centre investments given that the government has announced a tax holiday for global players using Indian AI infrastructure till 2047.
Singh says global AI leaders attending the summit are actively exploring ways to leverage India to build their AI ecosystems.
Translated, this usually means partnerships, local hiring, GCCs, R&D centres, and infrastructure expansion.
