OpenAI announced Sora’s shutdown on March 24, thanking users and promising guidance on preserving content. However, the abrupt decision surprised many creators.

OpenAI’s Sora was an AI video-generation app with TikTok-like social features. It debuted as a ChatGPT plugin in late 2024 and spun out as a standalone Sora 2 app in September 2025, generating realistic 10-15 second videos from user prompts.

Now that the platform is no longer available, here is a curated list of Sora alternatives for creators to explore for generating videos.

Kling 3.0

Kling 3.0 by Kuaishou is a Chinese-developed AI video model focused on photorealistic, cinematic output. Released in 2024, the model generates up to 15-second videos at native 4K resolution and 60 fps.

Key features include physics-accurate motion, multi-shot storyboarding, and reference frames for consistency.

It also supports multi-modal input (text + example images/audio) for fine control. Kling excels at product demos, sports, and e-commerce videos where detail and realism matter. Kling’s strengths include generating realistic, structured content, along with high-fidelity textures and clean camera moves.

Seedance 2.0

Seedance 2.0 from ByteDance is a unified multimodal AI built for cinematic audio-visual generation. It accepts text, images, audio, and video as inputs, offering full director-level control. It produces up to 15-second multi-shot videos with stereo (dual-channel) audio.

Its key features include extremely realistic motion with physics-consistent behaviour, smooth multi-character interaction, high image fidelity, and comprehensive reference use. These features allow users to feed multiple images/videos to guide scene composition.

Seedance even supports audio-to-video generation. For instance, turning music or voice into a matching animation. Output is “ultra-realistic” by industry standards. Use cases target professional content—film, advertising, e-commerce, and game cinematics that require stable, lifelike visuals. Seedance is accessible through ByteDance’s creative apps like Jimu web and Doubao app.

Compared with Sora, Seedance places greater emphasis on fidelity and control. It handles complex scenes and sound design more effectively, whereas Sora functioned more as an open-ended social tool.

Grok Imagine

Grok Imagine is the AI video generator from Elon Musk’s xAI, which was announced in August 2025. Integrated into the X app, the model converts text or images into audio-enabled videos.

Grok can output clips up to six minutes long, far beyond Sora’s 10 to 20-second limit. It auto-synthesises music, sound effects, and ambient audio to match the scene, requiring no manual editing, while simultaneously aiming for cinematic quality. Real-time editing/refinement is built in, where users can tweak prompts and regenerate on the fly. Grok is also available via a standalone Grok app, as well as platforms like Invideo.

Some key use cases include social media content, concept demos, educational or marketing videos. Grok’s strengths over Sora include much longer video length and built-in audio for storytelling. The former supports both text-to-video and image-to-video, animating a photo with sound.

Wan 2.2

Wan 2.2 is Alibaba’s open-source AI video model released in 2026. It’s a text-to-video and image-to-video system trained for cinematic output. Wan 2.2 is notable for its mixture-of-experts (MoE) design, enabling efficient generation. It delivers 720p video at 24 fps by default.

It focuses on photorealistic style and stability: background, lighting, and motion appear smooth, with an emphasis on movie-like composition. As an open-source model, Wan 2.2 comes with MIT-style licensing and is free to use. There is no built-in multi-character dynamics or audio. It produces silent videos that require post-production audio.

Use cases include experimentation, research, and indie creators who want a no-cost solution. Wan’s strengths are accessibility, as it requires no fees, and transparency. It achieves good results for simple scenes; a smaller model even runs on a single 4090 GPU.

Veo 3.1

Veo 3.1 by Google DeepMind is a state-of-the-art video model. While Veo 3.0 was released in 2025, Veo 3.1 came out in October last year. It emphasises physics realism and fidelity. Notably, Veo natively generates all audio, including sound effects, ambient noise, dialogue, and music, which are produced by the model. It supports up to 10-second clips—four, six, or eight seconds per prompt on Vertex AI—at 1080p.

Use cases include professional content and experimental filmmaking. Veo is designed for filmmakers and storytellers and enables the production of highly realistic environments. It can be accessed via Google’s AI tools, namely the Gemini AI app, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Google Labs/Flow (AI Studio). While Veo’s output is very high-quality, access typically requires technical setup or paid Google services.

Runway Gen-4.5

Runway Gen-4.5, introduced in December 2025, is a commercial AI video model hosted on Runway’s creative platform. It produces cinematic 1080p videos at 24 fps with top-tier image fidelity and motion realism. Key features include exceptional prompt adherence, along with objects obeying realistic physics, and scenes maintaining consistency. Multi-shot workflows, including image-to-video, video-to-video, and keyframe editing, are supported, offering fine control. Gen-4.5 maintains the fast generation speed of its predecessor.

Some key use cases include creative professionals and marketers. Runway integrates Gen-4.5 into its web app and API, enabling mixed-media projects.

Gen-4.5 excels at photorealism and detail, and it integrates into a full editing suite. Unlike Sora’s social focus, Runway targets production workflows

LTX 2.3 Pro

LTX Studio 2.3 Pro is a high-end generative platform and model aimed at filmmakers and agencies. It supports text-, image-, and audio-conditioned video generation, natively syncing voice/music to on-screen action. LTX 2.3 can output up to 4K resolution at 50 fps, with clips up to 20 seconds for storytelling flexibility.

The model provides multi-shot storyboarding, allowing users to specify start/end frames, portrait mode (1080×1920) for social formats, and audio-to-video generation—for instance, using a voiceover to drive scene pacing. Fine detail and prompt adherence have been improved, and a new vocoder yields cleaner audio alignment.

Use cases include professional video production, ads, and high-scale content. LTX Studio, which comes with a commercial API, is an all-in-one web platform built for large projects. LTX offers unmatched output quality and length—20 s, 4K, multi-input—along with built-in audio and editing tools. Unlike Sora’s “fun app” vibe, LTX is production-grade.
