Amit Sheth

Amit Sheth is leading the Indian AI Research Organisation’s (IAIRO) efforts to build sovereign AI systems designed specifically for enterprise and national needs. Over the past year, he has focused on advancing IAIRO’s vision of ‘Small AI’—an alternative to large, consumer-centric AI models developed in the West and China—by enabling organisations to build compact, domain-specific AI systems tailored to real-world business applications.

Under his leadership, IAIRO has developed the SAMVIT platform, which enables startups and enterprises to create sovereign, custom, neurosymbolic, and composite AI models while retaining intellectual property within India. His work aims to strengthen India’s AI ecosystem by helping organisations build products and solutions rooted in indigenous innovation rather than relying solely on foreign AI platforms.

Sheth believes India’s AI landscape must move beyond dependence on large overseas AI models toward homegrown alternatives that preserve data sovereignty, retain intellectual property within the country, and enable India to emerge as a global AI product nation.
