Telangana has emerged as a $145 billion life sciences ecosystem, driven by ₹84,000 crore ($8.8 billion) in investments over the past two years, marking the fastest expansion phase in the state’s history.

The milestone was highlighted during the seventh board meeting of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation, chaired by D Sridhar Babu, IT Minister, Telangana, in Hyderabad.

According to the foundation, Telangana’s life sciences sector has nearly tripled in size since 2016, positioning Hyderabad among the world’s leading hubs for pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology, and health-tech innovation.

A major highlight of the ecosystem’s growth is that Hyderabad now hosts technology and innovation centres of nine of the world’s top 10 life sciences companies, making it the only region outside the United States to achieve this distinction.

The rapid expansion has been attributed to policy continuity, global partnerships, and institution-building initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s integrated life sciences ecosystem.

“Telangana’s life sciences sector has witnessed unprecedented growth over the past two years. A focused ecosystem-building effort, anchored in strong institutional leadership and policy continuity, has helped attract investments, forging global partnerships, and accelerating innovation and growth. We are at the cusp of the next phase of growth enabled by the initiatives in the Next Generation Life Sciences Policy,” D Sridhar Babu said.

The Minister also called for faster implementation of committed investments linked to the proposed Green Pharma City project, noting that investment MoUs worth nearly ₹20,000 crore ($2.1 billion) should be grounded at the earliest.

The meeting additionally introduced Sarvesh Singh as the foundation’s new CEO. Singh outlined the organisation’s priorities for 2026-27, including accelerating implementation of the state’s life sciences policy and advancing initiatives such as the Telangana School of Life Sciences.
