The Pichai-led Google is reportedly in the process of reorganising its Assistant team to prioritise the development of its conversational AI technology, Bard, according to internal emails obtained by CNBC. The powerful and dynamic duo of voice assistants and AI is here to stay, AIM predicted last month when Microsoft integrated the highly praised ChatGPT into Bing.

The company’s vice president and head of the Google Assistant business unit, Sissie Hsiao, emphasised in a memo that the team should focus on Bard’s technology going forward.

Hsiao noted in the memo that the company is focused on delivering impactful solutions to its users and ensuring support for Bard’s teams as they continue their work. This move suggests that Google is planning to integrate Bard’s chat technology into its Assistant platform.

Google could have an edge in the race for supremacy, thanks to its vast hardware base of hundreds of millions of Android smartphones worldwide that come preinstalled with the Google Assistant. This gives the tech giant a significant advantage as it seeks to expand the capabilities of its AI technology.

AI-powered search engines and voice assistants still have various unanswered questions and remain risky despite the increasing number of integrations. The big tech are unleashing these models’ potential but AI experts are not yet convinced by the parasitical technology. While some are astonished, others view these models only as a form of entertainment. But with the rising acceptance, it seems the jury is out for the AI industry’s dangling subject.

However, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been advocating for the technology for a long time. At Microsoft Build 2016 event, he said that chatbots, as the next big thing, will have “as profound an impact as previous shifts we’ve had”. But he is not the only one. Recently, The inventor of the world wide web thinks so too. Personal artificial intelligence assistants, such as ChatGPT, are a vision of the future of the web, forecasted Sir Tim Berners-Lee, on CNBC’s Beyond The Valley podcast last week. He said that people can run their personal AI, much like their own version of ‘Alexa’ or ‘Siri, with their data pods. In times to come, Berners-Lee sees each user’s data on their pods which AI could learn from in order to assist.
