Musk’s latest cryptic tweet on bitcoin raises more questions

Being one of the biggest champions of bitcoin, Tesla had announced in March last year that it would accept bitcoin as payment.

Tesla founder Elon Musk ignited speculation online again after a cryptic tweet on Satoshi Nakamoto. The post showed four brand names (Samsung, Toshiba, Nakamichi and Motorola) with circled parts that formed the pseudonym for the mysterious developer of bitcoin.

Several commenters like cryptocurrency platform BlockFi and other stakeholders speculated the possibility that Musk himself was using the namesake. Musk has denied this, repeatedly stating that the inventor of bitcoin wasn’t as important as the evolution of cryptocurrency.

Shibetoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Dogecoin, also commented on the post.

Others predicted that this would propel bitcoin prices.

Musk has had a tumultuous relationship with bitcoin. Being one of the biggest champions of bitcoin, Tesla had announced in March last year that it would accept bitcoin as payment. However, after environmental concerns over cryptocurrency mining, Tesla announced in May that it was suspending bitcoin payments.

Musk has, however, kept the door open. In October, he stated again that he might restart accepting bitcoin payments if the cryptocurrency fulfilled the demands for clean energy.

The 49-year old was recently in the spotlight after responding to Ukraine’s request for Starlink stations promptly.
