Japanese technology giant Sony has plans to acquire Bungie, a US-based game development company for $3.6 billion. Bungie is best-known for Destiny and Halo gaming franchises.The deal will give Sony access to Bungie’s franchises and access to its live gaming services.

Bungie is a great innovator and has developed incredible proprietary tools that will help PlayStation Studios achieve new heights under Hermen Hulst’s leadership, said Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The gaming industry has recently witnessed a lot of major acquisitions. Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for USD 68.7 billion in January.
Bungie’s games will be multiplatform, Sony said in the announcement. Bungie will be an independent subsidiary of the Sony Interactive Entertainment post acquisition and will be led by its Board of Directors and Pete Parson, Bungie’s CEO and chairman.
