Last year, various institutions launched free resources and courses in the wake of the pandemic. Not surprisingly, online data science courses were one of the most sought after programs.

1| Summer Analytics’21 by IIT Guwahati

The Consulting and Analytics Club, an in-campus society at IIT Guwahati, is set to launch its next edition of the flagship Summer Analytics Course this month. The course is specially designed for beginners in Data Science & Machine Learning, with over 5+ Projects/Assignments, 60+ hours of content spread over six weeks. The course is entirely free. The tentative start date is May 16, 2021.

2| Free Online Course on Data Science for Engineers by IIT Madras

Recently, IIT Madras has invited registrations from interested participants for a free online course on Data Science for Engineers on the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) platform. The course will take place from July 27 to September 17 2021, under the aegis of Prof Ragunathan Rengaswamy and Prof Shankar Narasimhan. However, those who want certificates from IIT Madras and NPTEL will have to pay an amount of ₹1000 and take an examination on September 26 2021.

3| Introduction to Computational Thinking and Data Science by MIT

This is a free course provided by MIT on the edX platform. The course is aimed at students with prior programming experience in Python and a rudimentary knowledge of computational complexity. Students will spend a considerable amount of time writing programs to implement the concepts covered in the course. The course topics include advanced programming in Python 3, Knapsack problem, Graphs and graph optimization, plotting with the pylab package, random walks, probability, and Monte Carlo simulations. The duration of this course is nine weeks, and there is one session available, starting from March 25 and ends on May 27, 2021.

4| Online Summer Training Program on Machine Learning and Data Science 2021

This is a free online internship program on machine learning and data science with Python provided by Goeduhub. In this course, you will learn machine learning from scratch, data science with Python and model deployment with Flask and cloud platform (Hetoku). The duration of this course is 45 days, and the class starts on May 20, 2021.

5| Data Science: Machine Learning by Harvard University 

Data Science: Machine Learning by Harvard University is a free course available on edX. The course will take you through popular ML algorithms, principal component analysis (PCA) and regularisation by building a movie recommendation system. You will also learn about training data, and how to use a set of data to discover potentially predictive relationships. The course will start on May 13 and ends on September 2. Those who want certificates will have to pay ₹7,267.

6| Data Visualization and Building Dashboards with Excel and Cognos by edX

This free course will teach how to create data visualizations and dashboards using Microsoft Excel and IBM Cognos Analytics. You will learn about using spreadsheets as a tool for data visualization. By the end of this course you will be able to describe common dashboarding tools used by data analysts, design and create a dashboard on a cloud platform etc. The course will start on May 13 and those who want certificates will have to pay an amount of ₹7,267.
