OpenAI has introduced an API for ChatGPT, which is powered by their AI model GPT3.5-turbo, and priced at $0.002 per 1k tokens, making it 10x cheaper than their existing GPT models.
The San Francisco-based AI research firm considers it to be its best model for many non-chat use cases and has given developers access to language and speech-to-text capabilities. OpenAI now will only retain user data for a period of 30 days. Furthermore, they have given assurances that any data entered by users will not be utilised to train their models. The release and revision in policies has made adding AI capabilities to applications, websites, products and services much more accessible and affordable for developers.
While applications like Snapchat, Quizlet, Instacart, Shopify and Speak were amongst the early adopters, several other use cases of the API have popped up:
Summarize tech
Summarize tech is a tool that allows users to obtain a quick summary of lengthy YouTube videos, such as meetings, live events, and lectures. The tool employs the ChatGPT API to transcribe and condense extended YouTube videos into five-minute segments. Originally built by Dagster founder Pete Hunt utilising GPT-3 in September 2022, the tool recently got upgraded to the latest GPT model.

Introduced in January by tech-enthusiast Krishna Nandakumar as a platform to ‘craft your own, personalised AI assistant with zero code’. Kili uses ChatGPT API to understand and respond to a wide range of customer inquiries, helping improve the overall customer experience. Kili is an AI-enabled customer support platform. According to the website it “responds to questions using your company’s documentation. This ensures that responses are specific and accurate to the product or service you sell”.
Everylead
Everylead is an AI tool that generates personalised messages for potential clients using their LinkedIn profile information. It can also automatically search for leads by uploading a CSV file and provide a summary of their professional experience while creating an engaging icebreaker to include in outbound campaigns.
