Reliance group led by billionaire Anil Ambani has inked a historic deal with tech giant Cisco Jasper to launch its independent Internet of Things (IoT) unit UNLIMIT. As stated in the press release the move is aimed to unlock the potential of IoT in India, since it is a critical enabler of growth and will also play a key role in furthering the Digital India project.
With this deal, Reliance has become the first telecom player in India to have its own IoT unit.
Reliance’s UNLIMIT platform will be based on Cisco Jasper’s connectivity management platform, that also includes Reliance’s mobile network.
UNLIMIT is pegged to play a major role in the development of the Digital India project. Under the Digital India government scheme, plan is to build a 100 Smart Cities to bring about a digital change and improve the quality of life.
Juergen Hase, CEO of Reliance Group’s IoT business unit, reportedly said, “IoT is a critical enabler for India’s growth, and businesses throughout the country are already utilizing its huge potential to help deliver innovative new services to their customers, while reducing cost and increasing revenue.”
Cisco aims to provide enterprises across India with IoT solutions.
